Boone Hall Plantation
Our first stop on the way to Charleston was Boone Hall Plantation. It is one of the oldest working, living plantations still growing crops to this day. At one time known for it's cotton and pecan, it still produces many fruits such as peaches and strawberries. At one point they were even big in the brick making business providing bricks for places like Fort Sumter and many of the homes in Charleston. Three different families have owned the plantation and four different houses have been built on the plantation. The original was a wooden building that looked much like a barn built in 1790. The current house was built in 1935. That was a little disappointing to find out, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. The rear-view from an Oak Tree I was sitting on.
