Intruiging...
Our friend Steve posed an interesting idea the other night. He asked us to make him a CD of the 15 songs we would want to be stranded on a desert island with. When he said this I thought...EASY!!! But, man...it has been torturous. I enjoy so many types of music and so many songs hold different meanings for me. It was hard to create a list of favorites v. a good mixture of tunes.
So, here are my 15 songs that I wouldn't mind being stranded on a desert island with (although I mind being stranded on a desert island very much).
1. I'm Only Sleeping - The Beatles: My favorite Beatles song. John Lennon at his finest.
2. Save My Soul - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: There's something wonderfully seedy about this song.
3. Caribbean Blue - Enya: For those relaxing moments.
4. I Will - The Beatles: This was our first dance at the wedding. I need a little piece of Brian with me. : )
5. This Love Affair - Rufus Wainwright: It was hard to choose just one Rufus song. The Maker Makes from Brokeback Mountain was up there for the spot. This song is so beautiful and haunting.
6. Straight to My Heart - Sting: My favorite song.
7. Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) - U2: Love Bono's voice. It's so soothing and powerful at the same time. I can't help but sing along to this one.
8. Belief - John Mayer: John Mayer has such a unique sound. I enjoy the bluesy vibe.
9. Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers: I first heard this in the movie Center Stage and can't help but breaking into the dance from the movie when I hear this song.
10. Clarinet A La King - Benny Goodman: Not a widely known Benny song. I love the king of swing...and it doesn't hurt that I play the clarinet as well. No one plays it better than Benny.
11. Bacchanale from the Opera "Samson et Delilah" - as played by the Philadelphia Orchestra: This was another hard choice. It was between this and the Firebird Suite. This one is just so dynamic and is a little easier to follow thematically.
12. Drowsy Maggie - The Chieftans: I would be lost without some good Irish music.
13. Jet Song - West Side Story: I love the Broadway showtunes!!! I would be hard pressed to find a more classic one than the Jet Song. It makes you want to dance in the streets...I used to pretend I was doing that in a long hallway we had in our house in The Woodlands.
14. Porcelain - Moby: You can't be stranded on a desert island without the classic beach song.
15. Cruel Summer - Bananarama: I know, I know...seriously...the song from Karate Kid?! I hear you laughing at me now. But, everyone needs one guilty pleasure song no matter where they are. This one is mine.
