The Jetty
Quintana Jetty during Hurricane Emily:
Brian and I went out for lunch yesterday since it was his Friday off, and I had a gift certificate to the Texas Burrito Factory. (Very good burritos by the way. The could definitely compete with Freebirds.) Afterwards we decided to do some exploring as we are apt to do when Brian is behind the wheel and we don't have anywhere we have to be.
So, we took a drive down to Quintana beach. It's a little further than Surfside and a little quieter than Surfside. We happened upon the Quintana Jetty so we decided to walk out on it. Brian was ready to head back about half way, but I decided we should press on. And how exciting that we did. Two men were fishing at the end of the jetty and were in the middle of an intense struggle. Whatever it was it was big and wasn't going without a fight. After some time we finally got a glimpse of the "beast:"
Yep, it was a Black Tip Shark about 4 feet in length. I thought it was very exciting! They finally landed the sucker and I didn't want to stand around to see what they did with it so we applauded them and left. I just hope they put him back. (Doubtful though.) On the way back to the car Brian found some pools of shrimp swimming around between the rocks. That was cool. I don't think I've ever seen a live shrimp before.
Then the whole excursion was followed up by some good rain on the way home. We have been under drought conditions here so the rain was much needed. All in all it was a fun afternoon.
