A bit of Grace

I hope no one thinks that we are neglecting Grace over here.  She has slowed down quite a bit in her old age.  Recently Grace has been dealing with some medical issues so I thought I'd take the time to update the blog a bit in regards to her.  A few months ago she began experiencing some eye problems which led to eye medication.  However, the medication was beginning to go up in price (a lot!) and so we had been looking for alternatives to those meds.  Over Christmas we noticed she was developing a lump on her lower lip.  We kept on eye on it for a couple of weeks, and then determined that it needed to be look at.  It was more than an irritation from a scratch or something.

Fast forward to last week and Grace had to have surgery to have the lump removed from her lip, and we decided that she also needed to have her eye removed in order to return to a semi-normal activity level.  Well, it turns out the lump was a tumor, so that got sent off to a lab for testing.  The eye lid began swelling this weekend and she had a little blood leaking from her nose so Brian took her in to the vet this morning.  The vet said that most likely her clot came loose and it formed a new one so we just have to wait for the swelling to go down.  She will drain it only if she has to.  So, Grace is there for observation today.

Along with the eye check up we also found out this morning that Grace's tumor is an aggressive form of skin cancer.  The vet said it was a deep tumor so she's not confident that she was able to get it all.  But, according to the scans she didn't see that it had spread.  Although that's not 100% either.  So, we are praying fervently that the cancer was removed completely and hadn't spread.  We hope that you will join us in our prayers for Grace.  I know she's old and hopefully has lead a good life since joining our family, but I would like another year or two of this (wouldn't you?):
